My favourite photographic light is like this. Brooding skies, sunlight cutting under the clouds and irradiating the land. In such conditions, light is itself your photograph subject. This is, after all, just a softly golden field that’s been harvested, with a wall and the sky. Thirty minutes later from another vantage point, I saw a tractor working on another field. We had a Noah’s Ark summer with a record breaking deluge of rain. Floods used to be rare in Britain, now they are common. We had two hot weeks at the end of May – technically spring – which I enjoyed in Scotland. The far north was wonderful but there were floods down in Kent. I wonder how the farming was this year.
