Tractors were working the fields here. I’d just come down a path where I had to divert onto the rough ground to make way for it. I find the position of British farming rather odd. It’s substantially upheld with financial grants which don’t exist in any other industry. It’s not necessary to rear and kill livestock for us to eat and survive. As a business, it’s odd how unprofitable farms receive support. It seems tied up with romantic ideas about stewardship of the land. But the land was there before the farm, and was perhaps more ecologically balanced and pleasant.
