This was my first wild camp after my 2012 Pyrenees trip. It was pleasant because it was manageable, when I was carrying so little. When I walk and camp after the Pyrenees there’s a peculiar but interesting sense of adjustment. I’m used to seeing huge mountains and a vast distance but then like a different taste, the scenery is smaller and unfamiliar. I have this experience even in a park: the green is the same, the water is the same, the quality of space is the same – but it’s all tiny compared to the Pyrenees. It’s quite enjoyable when it lasts because the small attractions evoke the bigger ones. Then I experience Britain habitually again, and the memory of the Pyrenees evaporates.
