When I look at shots like this I sense a quietness to them, which is the effect of the visual experience. Snow deadens sound. Animals are quiet in winter, conserving energy to fight the cold. The land is asleep. Some animals hibernate. Trees and plants withdraw into themselves with bare branches and no attempt to grow. Cold brings sleep. This correlates with death (if you read poetry) but we know spring is coming.
