A few decades ago colour photography was not fully accepted. Black and white was regarded as more ‘authentic’ and colour as a kind of distraction. I felt this transition myself. I made black and white prints in a home darkroom and colour, paradoxically because it is more lifelike, seemed artificial. I mostly show the mountains in colour but when you find a shot which translates into monochrome equally well or even better, there’s a certain satisfaction to it.
