I look back and remember this – approximately four weeks later – and it strikes me what a remarkable day it was. I’d had a good sleep on a camp site despite minus two temperatures, climbed up the hillside here to Bleaberry Tarn, then had a marvellous walk across Red Pike, High Stile, High Crag, Haystacks, and Fleetwith Pike. I’m not actually a great fan of snow because I’ve seen a lot of it; in scenic and photographic terms it’s no longer novel and it requires a far greater walking effort. This day however there wasn’t so much of it so it was a good balance, and there was excellent visibility and blue skies.
