It’s a small but concentrated area here where you find Llyn Ogwen, Tryfan, Llyn Idwal, Devil’s Kitchen, the Glyders and Y Garn. I’ve walked here five or six times, the first when I was a schoolboy. It’s become one of my favourite places anywhere. There’s a feeling of wildness and retreat as you drive down the valley which is more characteristic of Scotland. The hills at the end are rugged and muscular looking, feeling like Scotland again.
That’s Pen Yr Ole Wen on the distant left, behind which you find the Carneddau. That’s a favourite area too. Like the Cairngorms in Scotland it’s a large upland area with, in the case of the Carneddau, enticing sea views.
