I had fun romping around the Rhinogs looking for shots like this. It’s not an obviously photogenic area so you work hard finding foreground interest, background interest, and balanced compositions. I often tell people all photography is like this: you have to understand the difference between the sensory impression of enjoying a place and how that does not in itself translate into a visual photograph. There’s a language of photography, which you have to understand. I think it can be taught to some extent but there’s also an intuitive and instinctive aspect to it which is probably more important.
