Once you’re in this area it feels quite wild and remote. At certain places, with particular outlooks, almost like Scotland. The fact is there’s a road forty five minutes away, a hostel, a few miles down the road the shops at Capel Curig, and from the plateau at the top you see Llanberis and hear the Snowdon railway. People make this too complicated: what is wild, is there a wilderness in Britain or anywhere else. What matters is the experience of the hills not making them into a sociological, political, commercial or academic concern.
