At the top of the Calberide ridge the French side was covered in cloud. I’ve seen this a few times and it’s a lovely sight, strange that Spain and France are so different. The mountain demarcation corresponds to the country boundary. It’s not arbitrary, and not only because of the mountain line. Spain is characteristically hot and dry whereas bordering France is wetter. I’d had barely any breakfast and the final hour climbing up here was grim. I didn’t have the strength for it but didn’t want to stop. I found myself cursing the Estos refuge and others because they provide a sugar snack not ‘breakfast’. Take note of this if you plan a trip to the Pyrenees. I stopped here for video, photographs, and lunch, in that order. This is looking over to France.
