I don’t particularly like poplars. They’re thin, willowy, don’t satisfy. Almost irritating, I find, because they don’t feel right. They’re fast growing and meant to be ornamental, which is contrary to nature. They’re often planted as a screen and wind break beside railway lines and similar which adds to the artificial effect. In good light anything can be beautiful. Although you are arguably photographing the light not the subject, on this occasion I liked the poplars at Chorlton Ees.
