When I reach this point I’m often undecided. I can cut down through the forest or walk uphill to the left. Uphill is the longer route and it’s what I chose for this day. The main factor is the light. If it’s good light I’ll walk and photograph for longer. If it’s sombre and overcast I will probably go through the forest. For some reason I often feel the longer route is a big effort. It isn’t. I walk the Pyrenees, Scotland, Snowdonia and Lake District all of which are on a much bigger scale. I’m unsure about shots like this. It is beautiful, but it’s moving towards a prettiness which is not the hill walking feeling.
