I’m editing this shot three months after I took it. This is autumn. It’s astonishing to see this again, a carpet of textures and colours, now it’s gone. The path starts at steps beside the River Mersey and leads into woodland. I don’t go there very often. There’s a pond, which I always like, shaded and surrounded by trees but with no sign of life. Small green leaves covering the surface. Swirl them around, peer underneath, you can’t even see bugs.
It seems to me there are openings in life, where we might be receptive to something finer. We can’t make it happen, predict where it leads, or control it. The important thing is to pay attention. Nature is quite good in that respect.
