There are lakes in the Pyrenees, like this one, which have poignant effect. The rock is hard, sun struck and barren, punctuated with tough trees and occasional flowers. The water is silent. The air is silent. Your footsteps are the only sound.

You might wander down to the lake if you have the time for a paddle, drink or swim. You might have lunch or a snack. You might want to rest.

I’m not a fan of granite parts of the Pyrenees but granite lakes are lovely.
