In some respects I think a black and white mountain photograph is the best you can get. One of my favourites is a shot I took of Ben Lui in Scotland. I like this one too but it’s not as effective as the latter. A picture like this rests on many complex factors. A good camera and lens and knowledge of how to use them, and the ability to walk to these places with all that entails. Then you need a dramatic viewpoint which you have to recognise instinctively. And ideally you want effective light which is a matter of luck combined with perseverance as you return again and again to the hills. Finally, you use Photoshop skills adding a further dimensions to the art.
