The Helvellyn plateau, wonderful as it is, is mostly featureless in terms of photographic possibilities. The panorama stretching from Windermere to Borrowdale is beautiful, but not obviously photogenic. Red Tarn and valley views are worth exploring and the edge of the plateau is interesting, giving you foreground detail which is particularly effective in snow. Snow turns the hills into sculpture. I’ve got some shots like that. When you find a small place like this it’s worth exploring all its possibilities. The colour of the grass is the main attraction, surrounding the pool. This can be composed and arranged in many different ways.
