I’ve come down this ridge at sunset many times. Windermere is not a lake I’ve explored because it’s the heart of Lake District tourism. In summer the area gets congested with day trippers. On one occasion I saw drunken youths shouting in a car, looking for trouble. I’ve also seen litter, waste, and broken beer bottles left beside Ullswater by youths whom I’d seen roaring along the road. Such behaviour is why camping beside Loch Lomond in Scotland is now banned. From a distance, Windermere is a beautiful lake. As with many facets of life, perspective is what matters.
