JW used the resources of both books and nature to healing effect for what was essentially the same thing: nourishing the psyche. I never used to be interested in shots like this. They don’t have a centre of interest and the immediate impression is they are dull. Now I like them. The flat aesthetic is why this is pleasing. The mind rests on it without being pulled in any way, and then you start noticing the details.
