Every time I’ve walked Red Pike, High Stile and High Crag above Buttermere I’ve stopped at this pool for photographs. That means four or five times I’ve walked around here surveying every vantage point, which on one occasion included wading barefoot into the water. I knew immediately it had great photographic potential, looking across the Ennerdale valley to Pillar. This however is the first shot I would say is fully successful: because of the light, and because of the conditions. Look at the glistening textured ice, the reflection of the clouds, the distant poignant hills and the streak of orange vegetation.
