I feel I’ve overlooked Grasmoor, to the left of this view, and I’m not sure why. With most Lake District hills I have special feelings, memories, and ideas. Great Gable: the routes, views, approaches, and photographic opportunities and it’s the same with Pillar, the Scafells, Helvellyn and the others, but not Grasmoor.

It may be because the peak doesn’t offer you an obvious walk; that you reach the summit and then have to retreat the same way.

Unless you climb the scree slopes from Buttermere, which I did twice, and will never do again. The first time was a crazy mistake, the second time I’d forgotten the first.
