I first discovered the Cregennen Lakes around six years ago, driving from Dolgellau to Barmouth. The area is striking and primeval in appearance: the rock gnarled and other worldly, the lakes quiet and seemingly wild. Cader Idris is top right. In this case, low cloud is better than a view of the peak because the point of the photograph is the twist and shape of the trees together with the detail of moss and vegetation, beside the sombre water.
