Not an especially interesting shot aesthetically. It does however show you Pic Casterau which dominates the area above Lac Casterau which you see below. Pic du Midi d’Ossau is on the skyline. The conventional High Level Route goes down to the lake and up the other side below Midi d’Ossau behind which you find Refuge Pombie. In 2009 I took an alternative route around the back of Midi d’Ossau crossing Col de Suzon. It’s a fine route climbing up a steep and arduous forest track, then magnificent open views up a large quiet valley, finishing at Col de Suzon and then down to Refuge Pombie. I think the route you see here is probably more scenic but involves climbing up scree which I hate.
