The view here is towards Balaitous. It’s described as a rough, tough, unforgiving climb consisting of scree and rock. Not my idea of fun. Nor was I inclined towards fun as I made my way towards Banos De Panticosa from Respomuso. It took me six hours to walk a climb described as two at the centre of which was the following thought: what am I doing here? There was no choice. You reach a commitment stage beyond which you must continue. It’s not a difficult route. The problem lay with considerable lack of food and corresponding tiredness. Looking at this photograph now it’s tinged with those memories and a new poignancy to the name: Balaitous. Wonderful view. I didn’t especially enjoy it at the time.
