This was the beginning of the end of my Pyrenees trip 2013. The previous day I’d slept at a lovely place called Camping Banos at the top of the Esera Valley in Spain. I took the morning bus to Besurta then climbed to Portillon de Benasque or Port de Venasque, which is the border from Spain back to France. The difference was dramatic and lovely. Much as I’d enjoyed the Spanish Pyrenees the scenery is harsher and rougher. Back in France, here, I saw green hills again such as I hadn’t seen for two weeks. It was a sad day descending this valley to Hospice de France and then hitching down to Luchon where I spent the night, and caught the train for Toulouse the next day. It was soothing however, reminding me of the Lake District, seeing this part of France.
