This was the beginning of the end of my photography. The white cloud below was beautiful but the grey misty cloud from the Ossoue valley obscured the views. Here it is coming over. There was a brief opportunity for shots like this; seconds later it was gone. Some years ago I discovered the Greeks spoke of two kinds of time. You have Chronos, and Kairos. Chronos refers to mechanical and material time. When you look at your watch and similar. Kairos refers to subtle rhythms and harmonies. I’ve not studied it as such and certainly not in Greek so I’m not offering an authoritative definition. The distinction however seems clear. Kairos spans across time concerning that which is before, during, and after.

I occasionally speak of this but perhaps not as directly as I do now. For me at the heart of mountain walking there are moments such as this concerning stillness not action. Nature moves and unfolds around me in the duration of rock and flux of weather. I am the witness.
