The first time I saw this kind of light was possibly in images of Yorkshire. I would have been a teenager at the time, browsing books in a local library or the Amateur Photographer. I went there every Saturday to read it.

I’m not very familiar with the Yorkshire Dales but it’s in such landscape, the Peak District too, where this kind of shot possibly works best. If you see a floodlit area on a mountain it’s beautiful. If you see it moving across gentle grassy moors it works better. It’s more satisfying.

That has nothing to do with the different experiences of walking. My favourite walking in Britain is in Scotland. My favourite in the world, so far, is in the Pyrenees. Those are big mountain areas which this is not, coming down from Shining Tor in the afternoon.
