This view is very pleasant but needs good dramatic light, as you see here, to make it notably photogenic. I’m ambivalent about the illuminated houses. I usually avoid man made features. You can’t avoid these houses for this view, which show the little village of Grange. It’s a different photographic story when you include a house, cairn or – with the Pyrenees – a signpost. Houses speak of cosy and romantic rural living. What that means however is money, chance, and privilege. Those little houses will be available for purchase very rarely. I digress. This was a lovely view with wintry russets, snow, and brooding skies. It is the light which ultimately makes this shot. A thin area of illumination, suggesting drama and a wider natural world.
