Mountain lakes are beautifully tranquil. I’ve seen many of them in the Pyrenees. In Britain too, notably in the Lake District. Mountain summits and passes are often silent and still. It’s one of the pleasure of a walk. Lakes, such as Lac du Rotondu, amplify the stillness.

There were actually cries and splashes on the other side for a few seconds. I couldn’t see the swimmers – the water was cold – but tried recording it for video. It was too faint.
