Background
I’ve been walking and photographing mountains for over thirty five years. Before that, as a boy, I started with film cameras and a home darkroom.
My favourite places are Scotland, the Lake District, Snowdonia, Peak District and the Pyrenees where I have so far undertaken six major walks, camping in the mountains. In addition to wild camping, I like camp sites and day walks.
I have a Masters degree in Photography and Postgraduate Certificate in Education. The professional teaching qualification, when I trained for the Further Education sector.
Teaching
I taught in several colleges covering all aspects of photography. My courses included film and darkroom methods, computers and digital workflow, camera use, editing, critical thinking, composition, art, and outdoor projects. I wasn’t assessed by Ofsted but a senior teacher, observing me, advised “you know you’re a good teacher.”
Prints
My photographs are taken with a Canon 5D and L Series lenses. For the last 10 years, a Sony A7R with Zeiss lenses. This means high quality results. I use C-Type photographic printing, the dark room technology with light sensitive paper and silver based chemistry. This is one of the most archival forms of printing; with Fuji Professional paper.
Writing
I have interests alongside photography and write thoughtful pieces like it’s a magazine. The subjects are walking, mountains, philosophy, nature, art, photography, books, camping, and the outdoors. It takes a long time and if you like it, perhaps you would consider supporting me.
