I adore the Pyrenees. I’ve walked there six times backpacking and camping, mostly eating at the mountain huts. My very first trip wasn’t successful because of autumnal bad weather. I didn’t walk much, from the hostel at Lescun, apart from two clear days. The backpacking is some of the best in Europe. I mostly prefer France where it’s greener, but there are some areas where the Spanish side is better. My best walk was a combination of the High Level Route (HRP) and Spanish GR11. I speak a little French which is very useful. Almost no Spanish, which makes it difficult, although it doesn’t discourage me from enjoying Spain.
